Robert Mercer, also known as Bob or Merce, grew up primarily in Wallingford, PA. He graduated college from Clemson University in South Carolina with a degree in Parks and Recreation Administration in 1974.
On July 1, 1975, he became the “Resident Naturalist” at the Silver Lake Nature Center, a job he held and grew for over 40 years.
He was also active in the nature center profession. A self-taught naturalist, he can best be described as a generalist or a field naturalist with stronger skills in birds and plants, but one who dabbles in insects, geology, and ecological principle. Bob is an active member of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, DVOC and the Association of Nature Center Administrators, ANCA.
He retired from the Silver Lake Nature Center on January 8, 2016 and has been travelling the country visiting parks and many beautiful places this country has to offer.
For most of his 40 years at the Silver Lake Nature Center, he wrote a quarterly article for the newsletter ranging in topics for natural history to environmental issues. This blog will carry on that tradition. Most likely, the topics will range wildly as he muses on his sightings and experiences
